Statement of Non-Discrimination

The BUSD Board of Education is committed to equal opportunity for all individuals in education and in employment and does not discriminate on the basis of ethnic group classification, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender, race, ancestry, national origin, color, or physical or mental disability, or any other unlawful consideration.
The Nondiscrimination Policy Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 prohibits discrimination against persons with a disability in any program.  In order to fulfill its obligation under section 504, Biggs Unified School District recognizes a responsibility to avoid discrimination in policies and practices regarding its personnel and students.  No discrimination against any person with a disability will knowingly be permitted in any of the programs or practices in the school system.
Biggs Unified School District has specific responsibilities under the Act, which include the responsibility to identify, evaluate, and if the child is determined to be eligible under Section 504, to afford access to appropriate educational services.
If the parent/guardian or staff member disagrees with the determination made by the professional staff of the school district, he/she has a right to an informal mediation and/or a hearing with an impartial hearing officer. Complaints may be submitted to: Doug Kaelin, Superintendent  (530) 868-1281 x 250 or 300 B Street, Biggs, CA  95917
