2006 - 2007
Physical
Education I and II must be completed by all Biggs High School students as a
requirement for graduation. All
9th grade students must take Physical Education I, and a second year
must be taken in the 10th 11th or 12 grade.
Through
physical activity students will gain physical awareness, self-esteem,
fundamental motor skills, knowledge and theory of physical activity and
application of that knowledge, and
increase their level of physical fitness.
CLASS
PROCEDURE
1.
Students are required to dress in appropriate PE uniform (T-shirt,
shorts, socks and tennis shoes) daily. Failure to dress in appropriate uniform
will result in a suit cut. To account for special situations, each student will
be given two suit cuts per quarter that will not affect the student’s grade or
detention. The third suit cut will
drop the student’s grade by one half ˝ letter grade. Each suit cut after
three will result in an additional drop of one half 1/2 letter grade. A cut
will also count as a suit cut. Any
student that does not have a proper uniform (after two) will be issued a
“loaner” suit and expected to dress and participate. A suit cut will be
issued, detention issued and parent contact made. (See Biggs discipline policy)
Willful refusal to dress and participate will be treated, as defiance and
a referral will be issued. Legitimate
medical excuses will not be counted as a suit cut.
(See medical absence from PE)
2.
Students must enter the gym before
the tardy bell rings.
3.
Students have 5 minutes from the tardy bell to dress and report for roll
call.
4.
A student that fails to report ready to participate 5 minutes after the
tardy bell will be given a tardy. 2
tardies equals one suit cut.
5.
Students are expected to participate in the daily activity in a safe,
fair and co-operative manner. When
a student’s behavior is unacceptable he/she will lose 1 to 10 points.
A serious offense will result in the student’s removal from class and
an “F” issued on the first offence.
Each “F” lowers the student’s grade one letter grade.
6.
No food or drink will be allowed in the gym during class time.
7.
Students
are required to stay in the gym area until the dismissal bell rings
8.
Students that wish to shower after class must provide their own
Towel.
9.
When involved in a swimming unit appropriate swimwear must be worn.
T-shirts may be worn over swimwear.
10.
Medical absence from Physical Education class:
Students
with medical issues that require an adaptive consideration to their physical
activity must have a medical note. We
will accept a note from a parent for up to three days.
If the student requires adaptation to their physical activity for medical
reasons, any longer than three days a doctor’s note will be required.
All students with medical adaptations will be expected to dress and
participate within the limits of their disability.
When
a student wishes to be excused from Physical Education, they must present an
appropriate doctor or parent note to the attendance office prior to
class. The attendance
office will make a copy of the note, place it in the student’s file and
provide the student with a medical excuse from Physical Education.
If the student does not have the appropriate medical note prior to
class they must go to the office to obtain one and a tardy will be issued.
When a student is on medical excuse from Physical Education, they must
report to the teacher with medical excuse (obtained from office) The Physical
Education teacher will assign the student an alternate activity within the
limits of their disability. Failure
on the student’s part to follow teacher direction will cause the medical
absence to be removed and a suit cut assigned.
GRADING
PROCEDURE
Physical
Education is an activity class. You
must be present and participate to benefit.
Students will earn 10 points for each day they are present and
participate fully. Effort and
performance will determine participation grade. A student may lose one to 10 points each day for failure to
participate in a fair and cooperative manner. An unexcused absence or
cut will result in 0 points for that day.
In
addition to participation there may be written tests given on rules and
lectures.
The
final grade will be determined as follows:
%
of total points (see chart below) = participation and test grade.
Any suit cuts and tardy demerits will be subtracted from that grade to
determine final grade.
