recommended that each SSC thoroughly and completely review their school

each
year is not necessary; however, they should be updated as needed. Bill stat=
ed
the use the SSC Calendar would help complete meeting tasks in a timely way.=

color:black'>Bill discussed the State Budget update coming up in January. O=
ur
District received 3 cuts in the past year.<span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>=
&nbsp;
</span>Bill commented that we don&#8217;t know what January&#8216;s Budget =
is
going to look like.<span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span>Potential=
 cuts
to the District from State revenue ranging from $150,000 to $300,000 dollars
per year are expected.<span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span>Bill e=
xplained
current cuts in 2009-2010 and possible cuts for the future. Due to the
reduction in revenue, Bill also mentioned that SSC might have to pay for th=
ings
that the District can&#8217;t afford.<span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp;
</span><span class=3DGramE>Bill suggested being frugal on how schools spend=
 their
monies.</span><o:p></o:p></span></p>

REPORT<o:p></o:p></span></u></b></p>

<p class=3DMsoNormal><span style=3D'font-size:10.0pt;mso-bidi-font-size:12.=
0pt'>Vera
handed out the ELAC minutes and reviewed them. ELAC stands for &#8220;Engli=
sh
Language Advisory Committee&#8221;.<span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp;
</span>Vera mentioned that there was not a translator for Back to School
night.<span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span>Jerry and Vera will di=
scuss
how to make sure this is covered in the future.<span
style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span><span style=3D'color:black'>Bill c=
ommented
that BES is out of Program Improvement status.<span
style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span>He also </span>reviewed the Title =
III PI
status and stated Vera did an excellent job creating the plan that helped m=
ove
us out of Program Improvement in the Title III program.<span
style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span>Vera recommended having the ELAC s=
erve
as the DELAC also since they have the same membership and the committee agr=
eed.
It was mentioned that some EL parents have requested a translator at SSC
meetings so that they may participate and Jerry stated we have several
employees who could translate.<span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </spa=
n>A
concern of the ELAC/DELAC is the availability of computers. Jerry stated th=
at
Dennis is getting the school more computers.<span
style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span>Vera is going to see if Dave Nieme=
yer
has access for more computers also.<span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp;
</span>Laura suggested using the Kids.com to help with tutoring EL students=
 and
Pam suggested this be brought up at SSC.<span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&n=
bsp;
</span>Vera mentioned only two parents would be attending CABE instead of 5
parents as anticipated.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class=3DMsoNormal><span style=3D'font-size:10.0pt;mso-bidi-font-size:12.=
0pt'>Laura
reviewed the Goal 3 Professional Development of the LEA Plan update 2009-10=
 on
page 26 in the DAC binder.<span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span>She
reviewed the statements in the strength column to determine if they were st=
ill
strengths and then to identify current areas of need. .<span
style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span>Laura stated the school district h=
as a
lot less money for professional development now and that SSC will need to h=
elp
with funding this area.<span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span>Pam
questioned if there was accountability for goals not met for professional
development activities.<span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp;&nbsp; </span=
>Bill
stated there should be data and documentation to support the goal
evaluations.<span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span>Terry expressed
concern about fundamental issues that he believes needs to occur.<span
style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span>He commented that there are areas =
that
are a must to have and also things that may be needed but not essential.<sp=
an
style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span>Terry also shared his concern about
focusing on staff development for to meet every day requirements.<span
style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span>Bill commented that should be disc=
ussed
in the SSC meetings.<span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span>Laura st=
ated
that SSC would need to prioritize the areas they choose to fund and look for
ways to provide professional development with minimal funding. <o:p></o:p><=
/span></p>

0pt'><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p></span></p>

<p class=3DMsoNormal><span style=3D'font-size:10.0pt;mso-bidi-font-size:12.=
0pt'>Jerry
reviewed the purpose of AB466/472 to help teachers implement newly adopted
instructional materials.<span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span>Ther=
e will
be <span class=3DGramE>a three</span>-day training available in January.<sp=
an
style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span>The funding for this program to pa=
y for
teacher participation has been cut by the State however. Vera shared there =
was an
EL Strategies training during the Staff Development day and discussed the
training. Bill reiterated that the responsibility for staff development lies
with SSC to implement training.<span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp;
</span>Melissa Atteberry commented she was concerned about not getting info=
rmation
back to other teachers who were not able to participate.<span
style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span>Bill agreed that there should be
follow-up and accountability by the SSC. Pam mentioned a need for a master
calendar and list events each year.<span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp;
</span>Bill reviewed current staff development procedures and how all teach=
ers
must complete and show evidence of training.<span
style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span>Vera stated three teachers went to=
 EL
Professional Development provided by Butte COE and brought back good report=
s.<span
style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span>Laura asked if the teachers who we=
nt
could put something together to share with the rest of the teaching staff.<=
span
style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span>Vera agreed and said she would fol=
low
up.<span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span>Jerry asked Vera to relay=
 the
information back to SSC to make a decision.<span
style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span>Jerry stated that there would be a=
 Data
Director re-fresh training on January 25<sup>th</sup>.<span

REE

0pt'>Laura
stated we have to participate in the Healthy Family Survey every other
year.<span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span>Pam said that in her op=
inion
many kids don&#8217;t feel safe because of bullying and it is still a conce=
rn.<span
style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span>Laura said the current plan sugges=
ted
having a School Safety Advisory Group and to have each school site write a =
goal
in what they need.<span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span>This is
currently not in place.<span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp;&nbsp;
</span>Brigitte stated there are currently both group and individual counse=
ling
available for BHS &amp; BMS.<span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span>=
Terry
questioned what was available for elementary kids.<span
style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span>Brigitte stated the elementary stu=
dents
were served on an as needed basis she is called as needed.<span
style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span>Jerry expressed appreciation for B=
ridgette&#8217;s
work and that she has been a huge help resolving issues for the elementary =
children.<span
style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span>It was mentioned that counseling
services for all grades levels with Medi-Cal status is available with
Shawn.<span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span>Other requirements for=
 this
goal were reviewed. Brigitte reviewed the procedure for counseling about
smoking for pregnant teens.<span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span>L=
aura
asked if fire drills were being implemented and Jerry stated yes and the ne=
xt
drill was schedule for lunchtime on Friday and explained the procedure.<span
style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span>Laura also asked if the discipline
policy was reviewed annually with staff and students and Jerry affirmed.<o:=
p></o:p></span></p>

district is currently updating both district and school emergency
procedures.<span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span>Once the plan is
complete and approved training will be provided in the implementation of the
plan.<span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span>Local police and fire
departments will assist in the training. The Emergency Procedures flip chart
has been completed and printed and will be distributed after the first of t=
he
year. <o:p></o:p></span></p>

reviewed page 41 in DAC Binder, which summarizes the district&#8217;s
strategies for supporting graduation from high school.<span
style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span>Brigitte and Carleen discussed Cyb=
er
High and credit recovery.<span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span>Bri=
gitte
explained all 10<sup>th</sup> grade students go through counseling.<span
style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span>Carleen reviewed BHS&#8217;s Colle=
ge
Club for students planning on attending a 4-year college and that Dave Niem=
eyer
is in charge.<span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span>Brigitte stated=
 that
the career skill class was cancelled do to lack of interest on students
part.<span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span>Terry mentioned that all
students should learn basic interviewing techniques.<span
style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span>Vera went over Student Referral fo=
rm
from another school.<span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span>She stat=
ed
that it was very helpful and would like to adapt it for Biggs USD. Brigitte
stated she checks graduate&#8217;s classes each semester and sends out lett=
ers
letting informing them of their graduation status.<span
style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span>Adult Ed or <st1:place w:st=3D"on"=

is suggested as needed for at risk students.<span

eling
at 9<sup>th</sup> grade might better help prepare the students for

and
Jerry were currently working with middle school students to help prepare th=
em
to transition to the 9<sup>th</sup> grade. Jerry commented that students who
don&#8217;t get parent support at home require much more effort from the
staff.<span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span>Terry stated he was
concerned that 9<sup>th</sup> graders were not receiving the expectation to
graduate from their parents. Pam mentioned how CALPADS, the State student
information system is helping keep track of students as they move from dist=
rict
to district.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
